THE GREAT 50 DAYS OFFERING
In the Wyoming Conference, this period between Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday has become a great time of mission giving. It is through this offering that the mission projects of the Haiti Partnership are funded.
Each church in the conference is encouraged to support the Great Fifty Days Offering. Some churches take up a special offering; others promote it through their Sunday School; others give using a line item in their budget. The pastor or lay member will be asked to bring the offering to Annual Conference in Scranton in a special envelope that is mailed to each church.
Last year, the Great Fifty Days Offering totaled $33,000. Our goals for 2006 include:
$12,000 to complete the second floor of the Hermitage School
$10,000 to provide funding for humanitarian aid including feeding programs (for example, $10 will feed a child for a month)
$8,000 to begin construction of a water system and reservoir for the Hermitage area
$7,500 to continue support for teachers' salaries, and to hire two new teachers$5,000 to establish a school lunch program and develop a school agricultural program
$2,000 to provide ongoing funding for the micro-credit program established in 2005
Additional funds will be used for subsequent projects at Hermitage, such as a clinic and parsonage.
Many churches also assemble school bags and/or health kits, and provide scholarships to school children and/or the elderly living at Good Samaritan Home.
